Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your use of Anchor, a communication coaching app for couples (the "Service") provided by Anchor ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Anchor is — and is not
Anchor is a communication coaching tool, not a substitute for therapy, counseling, or professional medical advice. Anchor does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition. If you are in crisis or believe you may harm yourself or others, contact your local emergency services or a qualified professional. Nothing in the Service constitutes medical, mental-health, legal, or financial advice.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to use Anchor. You are responsible for the activity that occurs under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials (Apple, Google) secure. One account per person.
3. Subscription terms
Anchor offers paid subscriptions billed through the platform you installed the app from. You authorize the applicable platform to charge the payment method on file at the price and interval shown at checkout, including automatic renewal until you cancel.
3.1 Apple App Store (iOS / macOS) — StoreKit
Subscriptions purchased on iOS are sold by Apple via StoreKit and governed by your agreement with Apple. The subscription auto-renews at the end of each billing period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your Apple device, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. We cannot issue refunds for App Store purchases directly.
3.2 Google Play (Android) — Google Play Billing
Subscriptions purchased on Android are sold by Google via Google Play Billing and governed by your agreement with Google. The subscription auto-renews at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in the Google Play Store under Menu → Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Google under Google's policies. We cannot issue refunds for Google Play purchases directly.
3.3 Free trials and price changes
If a free trial is offered, you must cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. We may change subscription prices; material changes take effect at your next renewal and you will be notified through the platform per its rules. Continuing the subscription after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, defame, or incite violence against any person, including your partner.
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or create an account on behalf of someone without their consent.
- Upload content you do not have the right to share, including chat history that another participant has asked you not to share outside the conversation.
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or coerce the AI coach into producing medical, therapeutic, legal, or self-harm-enabling output, or into adjudicating between partners.
- Probe, scan, or otherwise attempt to compromise the security of the Service, evade rate limits, or scrape data not belonging to your account.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable export controls or sanctions.
4.1 Account termination
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms; if your use puts another user, the Service, or a third party at risk; if required by law or by Apple's or Google's platform rules; or if your account has been inactive for an extended period. Where practical we will give notice and an opportunity to cure. You may close your account at any time from in-app Settings; subscription cancellation must also be done through Apple or Google as described in §3.
5. Your content and AI processing
You retain ownership of the messages, imports, and other content you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited licence to process Your Content to operate the Service, including sending it to our LLM provider under a zero-retention contract for the sole purpose of generating coaching responses for you and, where applicable, your partner. We do not sell Your Content. See our Privacy Policy for details. Anchor is encrypted in transit and at rest, but is not end-to-end encrypted; the LLM provider sees plaintext under the zero-retention contract.
6. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED RESPONSES WILL BE ACCURATE, APPROPRIATE, OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR SITUATION. ANCHOR IS NOT A MEDICAL, THERAPEUTIC, OR EMERGENCY SERVICE.
7. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANCHOR AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR (B) USD $50.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them or to the Service are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The Service is offered only to users in the United States; by using the Service you represent that you are accessing it from within the United States. You and Anchor agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute not subject to arbitration, and waive any objection to venue in those courts.
9. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes we will notify you in-app or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
